So, this month I ideally wanted to talk about online counselling as I feel even though lockdown is easing, online counselling is something that is here to stay for a while. But as lockdown is easing, I thought writing about rebuilding confidence post lockdown is more relevant in the here and now.
With the virus prevalent to many areas still in the UK, we are still being told that we need to return to a degree of normality, whatever that new normality might be, but how do we do that? When I say that Covid-19 may possibly have changed us for life, I don’t think I’m exaggerating. We’ve all been through unprecedented challenges; whether it is the way work, socialise or generally go through our daily lives, we have been forced into a new way of doing things. With all this in mind, it’s not surprising that our confidence may have taken a knock, be that related to socialising, returning to the office or even related to our body image.
With the uncertainty and fear of coming out of lockdown, it’s no wonder that many of us may be feeling unsteady at this time with thinking what life may look like.
So, what can we do to help ourselves as we are going through this transition?
As much as we would like to feel confident overnight, unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. It takes time under normal circumstances, so you can only imagine how it may be at this difficult, trying time that we have all been through.
Go easy on yourself, don’t push too hard and be kind to yourself. Listen to your needs and reach out to loved ones when you need that support.
Self-belief, self-love and confidence is a journey, and it can come easier to some than it does to others. Your journey is an individual journey, so take it at your pace. There is no wrong way to do this!
Find some positive affirmations that are personal to you. When thinking of your personal mantra or affirmation, try to think what it is that you would like to achieve and how you would like to feel.
Some examples of positive affirmations are:
I am good enough
I am worthy of love
I believe in myself
I am proud of who I am
Try repeating your affirmation to yourself in the morning before starting your day and then again during the day when you need a boost.
Can you remember a time when you felt at your best? Whenever that time may have been or whoever it was with, can you remember how it made you feel? You have done this before; you can do it again! Try recreating some of these moments as life is returning back to normal.
